Resorts World Marina Langkawi to Redevelop for Superyachts, with Singapore's SUTL

The tie-up will turn the existing marina at Resorts World Langkawi into ONE°15 Marina Langkawi, adding the island to a regional yachting route between Singapore and Phuket, with the first arrivals expected in the second half of 2027.

LANGKAWI — Genting Malaysia has partnered with Singapore-listed SUTL Enterprise Limited to redevelop the marina at Resorts World Langkawi into ONE°15 Marina Langkawi, a superyacht-focused facility its developers say will put the island on a cruising route linking Singapore and Phuket. The agreement, signed 4 September, hands the site — currently operated as Resorts World Langkawi Marina — to SUTL's Malaysian subsidiary, ONE15 Marina (LGK) Berhad.

Under the deal, SUTL has committed a minimum capital investment of RM15 million to redevelop the marina, which is expected to offer more than 90 berths and accommodate superyachts up to 140 feet. The lease, if renewed in full, could keep SUTL running the marina for up to 63 years. Rent is set at a base of under RM60,000 a month, or a share of revenue, whichever is higher.

ONE°15 Marina Langkawi will join a network SUTL already runs at Sentosa Cove in Singapore, Panwa in Phuket, Desaru Coast in Johor and Nirup Island in Indonesia. The company frames the addition as filling a gap on what it calls a natural yachting route along the Andaman Sea between its Singapore and Phuket marinas, with the first yachts expected at the new Langkawi facility in the second half of 2027.

“This is an important step in the continued expansion of the group’s marina network in Asia,” said SUTL executive director and chief executive Arthur Tay Teng Guan, announcing the deal. Genting Malaysia president Lee Thiam Kit said the redevelopment strengthens Langkawi’s appeal to visitors, giving them “more ways to explore the island and its surrounding waters” — pointing to the island’s duty-free status and international flight connectivity as advantages for the project.

For operators already chartering out of the existing marina, the announcement is being read as good news. “This next step for the marina is a good thing for Langkawi, the economy locally, as well as nationally. Langkawi already has a relatively mature marine services industry, and this will continue to expand the ecosystem. The partnership will also offer the global super-yacht industry greater awareness of Langkawi as a yacht destination and base,” said Dato Alexander, a yacht charter operator who currently runs several vessels out of the Resorts World Langkawi marina.

Langkawi already has an established marine services scene to build on. The island hosts several international sailing regattas, and is currently home to three other commercial marinas: the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club in Kuah, Telaga Harbour Park at Pantai Kok, and Rebak Marina on Pulau Rebak Besar, which also runs a dry yard and marine maintenance services. ONE°15 Marina Langkawi, once built, would become a fourth.
